The Rolls:

Skills and Non-Offensive Spells: To make a skill check in the Hogwarts RPG, add together the relevant attribute and the number of "years" taken in a class, and roll and add 1d6. If the result is greater than the difficulty of the task, then you succeed at the task.

Offensive Spells and General Combat: Actions taken against another being, cognizant of the fact that it is being acted against, take an extra step. If the normal skill check succeeds, the entity being attacked adds his Strength and Intelligence, and then rolls and adds 1d6. If the result is greater than the roll of the attacker, the character successfully dodges.

Resistance: A simple 1d6+1 roll versus an attribute can be used to resist the effect of certain spells and potions with a resistance roll noted in the description. If the roll is lower than the ability minus any listed penalties, the effect is resisted. This does not stop the -1 Health in the case of the Yield System.
